Best cards for streaming
Every open card in our database that prints a streaming rate, ranked by what a dollar of that spending is actually worth back — the printed rate times our mid-range value for the points it pays. A big multiplier in a weak currency doesn't get to win.
Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express leads at 6.0¢ back per dollar — 6% on streaming, against a $95 annual fee. Chase Sapphire Preferred is close behind at 3.8¢.

Brand-locked cards — only at one merchant or portal
2 cards print a streaming rate that only pays at one merchant or through one portal. It is real money if that is where you shop — and nothing at all anywhere else — so it is listed here rather than ranked as a category rate.
| Card | Rate — where it pays | Value there | Anywhere else | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Disney Inspire Visa Card Chase |
10% at Disney+, Hulu and ESPN only | 10.0¢/$ | 1.0¢/$ | $149 |
| Disney Premier Visa Card Chase |
5% at Disney+, Hulu and ESPN only | 5.0¢/$ | 1.0¢/$ | $49 |
"Value there" is the brand-locked rate × our conservative point value. "Anywhere else" is what the same card earns on streaming spending that is not at that brand — usually its base rate. If most of your streaming spending really is with one brand, the app scores that card on your actual charges.
What these actually pay on a year of streaming
A rate is a promise about one dollar. This is the same ranking run over 36 real streaming charges totalling $636 — our sample year — scored one charge at a time by the same engine the app uses on your own statement. Caps, category rules and point values all apply; nothing is annualised or rounded up.
| Card | Earned on $636 | Effective rate |
|---|---|---|
| Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express | $38 | 6.00% |
| Chase Sapphire Preferred | $24 | 3.75% |
| Capital One Savor | $19 | 3.00% |
| AAA Daily Advantage Visa Signature | $19 | 3.00% |
| Wells Fargo Autograph | $19 | 3.00% |
On this spending the gap between top and bottom is $19 a year — the effective rate, after caps and point values, runs from 3.00% to 6.00%. Your own charges are what matter, and the app scores those rather than a sample.
How we rank
One arithmetic rule, applied by code to our maintained card database. There is no editorial pick, no hand-ordering and no sponsored slot.
- Printed earn rate. The streaming rate each issuer actually prints in its terms, read from our maintained database — not a promotional headline and not an average. A rate that only pays at one brand or through one portal is not a streaming rate and is never ranked here; it is listed separately below the table.
- Conservative point value. That rate is multiplied by our conservative mid-range value for the currency it pays. It is the step that turns "5x" into cents, and the reason a big multiplier in a weak programme does not win here. Every point value we use, published →
- Annual fee. Printed next to every card and used to break ties — where two cards pay the same, the cheaper one ranks higher. On this page the best fee-charging card needs about $3,167 of streaming spending a year before it beats the best free one. We never net the fee out of the rate for you, because whether it is worth paying depends on how much you spend.
- Caps and limits. None of the 12 cards ranked here caps its streaming bonus, and the cap column says so for each. Where a cap exists we print it rather than ranking as if it did not.
- Pool and cutoff. 221 open US cards are in our database; 15 of them print a flat streaming rate and qualify. The page publishes the top 12 by real value — the cutoff is #12, so 3 qualifying cards did not make it and can be found on the full card list.
- Rotating and pick-your-own categories. Kept out of the headline ranking, because they only pay in the right quarter or with the right election. Issuer-travel-portal-only rates are excluded for the same reason: they pay only if you book through the portal.
- Commission. The ranking code has no access to which cards pay us a commission — the ordering function never reads the affiliate file. Any apply link is attached after the order is already fixed, so it cannot move a card up or down. How that works.

The honest caveat
The best streaming card for you depends on what you actually spend — a high-rate card with a $325 fee loses to a no-fee card below a certain volume, caps bite, and your redemptions may beat or trail our point values. That math is exactly what the optimizer does: it re-scores your real charges against every card here.
Common questions
What's the best streaming card?
By real value, Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express leads at 6.0¢ back per dollar of streaming spending (6%, $95 annual fee). The best card for you still depends on how much you spend and what other cards you hold.
How do you rank them?
We rank by real value: each card's printed streaming rate multiplied by our conservative mid-range value for the points or cash it pays — so a large multiplier in a weak currency can't out-rank a smaller one in a strong currency. Rankings never depend on whether a card pays us a commission.
Is an annual fee worth it for streaming?
It depends on volume. Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express pays 6.0¢ per dollar against a $95 fee; Capital One Savor pays 3.0¢ with no fee. The extra 3.0¢ per dollar only covers that fee after about $3,167 of streaming spending a year. Below that, the free card wins outright.
Are these streaming rates capped?
No. None of the 12 cards ranked above caps its streaming bonus, so the printed rate applies to every dollar you spend in the category.
What about rotating-category cards?
14 more cards can reach up to 5% on streaming through rotating quarterly categories or a category you elect. We keep them out of the main ranking because they only pay in the right quarter or with the right election, which makes them impossible to compare fairly against a rate that runs all year. They are listed under the table.
Why aren't the brand-locked streaming cards ranked?
Because each of those rates only pays at one merchant or through one portal — Disney Inspire Visa Card at Disney+, Hulu and ESPN, Disney Premier Visa Card at Disney+, Hulu and ESPN. Anywhere else the card earns its base rate, so ranking it as a streaming card would overstate it. They are listed separately with the rate and where it pays.
