Amex Membership Rewards can move to 19 airline and hotel partners — Most airline transfers are 1:1; several partners differ (noted). US airline transfers carry a small excise-tax offset fee. Etihad Guest ceased to be a partner on 2026-06-30. Emirates and Cathay were cut to 5:4 (1,000 MR -> 800) in 2025-2026. Where the value is
- Premium cabins via a partner programAmex has the widest airline partner list of the transferable currencies, so its best use is booking a partner airline's premium cabin through whichever program prices that route lowest — for example Star Alliance space through Avianca LifeMiles or ANA. The value comes from the airline program you transfer into, not from Amex itself.
- Hilton at 1:2Membership Rewards transfer to Hilton Honors at 1:2, which can make sense at expensive properties, but Hilton points are low-value on their own — treat this as a situational move, not a default.
