What are Canadian rewards points worth?
Conservative mid-range values for the 11 Canadian rewards currencies in our database. These are quoted in Canadian cents, not US cents — Canadian points are earned and redeemed in Canadian dollars, so mixing them into a US table would be meaningless.
Updated 2026-09-16
| Currency | Our value / point | Cards that earn it |
|---|---|---|
| RBC Avion points | 1.50 cents | 1 |
| Aeroplan points | 1.35 cents | 1 |
| WestJet dollars | 1.30 cents | 1 |
| Amex Membership Rewards (Canada) | 1.00 cents | 3 |
| Scene+ points | 1.00 cents | 2 |
| CIBC Aventura points | 1.00 cents | 1 |
| cash back | 1.00 cents | 9 |
| Canadian Tire Money | 1.00 cents | 1 |
| National Bank rewards | 1.00 cents | 1 |
| BMO Rewards | 0.70 cents | 1 |
| PC Optimum points | 0.10 cents | 1 |
A value of 1.00 Canadian cents is the break-even against plain cash back — anything below it is worth less than C$0.01 per point.
Why we publish these
The same reason as the US list: every dollar figure the optimizer shows depends on what we think a point is worth, so the number belongs in the open where you can disagree with it. We deliberately use conservative mid-range values rather than best-case redemptions. Full methodology →
